Exista multi jucatori de poker foarte buni care sint specializati in turnee. Dan Harrington face parte dintre ei si este unul din cei mai consistenti: a cistigat WSOP in 1995 si a reusit sa ajunga la doua mese finale (mai exact in primii 4) la main event-ul World Series of Poker in doi ani consecutivi, 2003 si 2004. Performanta sa este senzationala si nu una de conjunctura, avind in vedere si faptul ca numarul participantilor la cel mai important turneu de poker din lume nu mai este la fel de scazut ca pe vremurile in care Doyle Brunson reusea sa il cistige.

Cartea “Harrington on Hold’em” are trei volume consistente: Strategic Play, Expert Strategy si Workbook. Toate se refera doar la jocul de turneu si deciziile grele care trebuie luate. In prima parte se prezinta inceputul si perioada intermediara din turnee, in a doua parte jocul de la sfirsit iar in a treia masa finala si diverse probleme.

Harrington foloseste un limbaj simplu si direct, prezentind extrem de multe exemple, majoritatea chiar cu un desen in care puteti vedea situatia exacta de la masa: blinduri si jetoanele jucatorilor. Pe buna dreptate caracterizat ca un jucator tight (opusul unora ca Gus Hansen sau Daniel Negreanu), Harrington reuseste sa surprinda uneori prin deciziile luate. Simtindu-va implicat, veti citi cartile pe nerasuflate. Veti deveni un jucator mai bun de turnee combinind apoi informatiile acumulate cu experienta de la mesele de joc.

Al doilea volum se axeaza pe jocul de la sfirsitul turneelor de poker: de la situatiile in care esti short stacked pina la heads up. Ca si prima parte si “The Endgame” contine termeni care nu au fost inclusi in alte carti despre poker, de exemplu: “inflection points”. De asemenea, Harrington specifica la anumite exemple daca acestea sint din pokerul online sau din cel live.
